Sam Cunningham, Class of 1969 led the SBHS football team for three years and won numerous honors in track and field. He excelled at USC, where he earned the nickname “Sam Bam” after his many outstanding plays as one of the country’s best fullbacks. Sam was named an All-American in 1972 and was Player of the Game in the 1973 Rose Bowl. He went on to a superb career in the NFL with the New England Patriots and was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1992.
